Pieter Vonk
Pieter Vonk was born in 1978 in the Netherlands and has lived in Utrecht since the age of eighteen. After more than two decades working in graphic design, he transitioned to painting around the age of forty, developing an independent practice centred on abstract portraiture. His work explores character and emotion through expressive faces, layered surfaces and a combination of acrylic, oil sticks, spray paint and gouache. Vonk’s approach brings together the precision of digital image-making with the spontaneity of physical painting. Sketches and digital compositions provide a starting point, while intuition, improvisation and imperfection guide the development of the final work. Following his participation in the KnockKnock Art Fair and his first solo exhibition in the Netherlands, he continues to develop his practice through new commissions and exhibitions, including a solo exhibition at Appie Gallery, Amsterdam, in 2027.
