Marissa Splinter

Marissa Splinter (1992) is an artist based in Amsterdam. She works with photography and film. In 2014, she obtained her BA in Autonomous Photography from the Willem de Kooning Academy.

As a child, she would lose herself for hours in family albums. No matter how many times she turned their pages, the images never stopped drawing her in. Marissa filled her diaries with words, trying to capture her experiences. Could it be that, even then, there was already a quiet longing to hold on to everyday moments, to remember them, to preserve them, and to give them a lasting place?

In a world that seems carefully constructed and always in a hurry, she seeks the ordinary, the quiet, and the true. Whether capturing people, architecture, or nature, she seeks traces of presence, the places where contact lingers, even when someone or something is no longer there. Watching, observing, listening, and storytelling form the essence of her practice. The intimate moments captured in family albums and the small, universal details of everyday life continually return in her images.

Her work is an ode to the quiet love and warmth hidden in everyday moments. She invites us to pause, to look closely, and to feel what often passes unnoticed. Her images remind us that connection is always present, if only we take the time to truly see it.
